On Justice and the Return of Unlawful Wealth

When Imam Ali (A.S.) returned the land grants given by Caliph Uthman to the Muslims, he said:


"By God! If I found even such wealth that had been spent on women’s dowries or the purchase of slave girls, I would still return it.

For truly, there is abundance in upholding justice, and whoever finds hardship in justice will find even greater hardship in injustice."

حضرت عثمان کو عطا کردہ جاگیریں جب مسلمانوں کو پلٹا دیں، تو فرمایا۔ خدا کی قسم ! اگر مجھے ایسا مال بھی کہیں نظر آتا جو عورتوں کے مہر اور کنیزوں کی خریداری پر صرف کیا جا چکا ہوتا تو اُسے بھی واپس پلٹا لیتا۔ چونکہ عدل کے تقاضوں کو پورا کرنے میں وسعت ہے اور جسے عدل کی صورت میں تنگی محسوس ہوا سے ظلم کی صورت میں اور زیادہ تنگی محسوس ہوگی۔
